Since this despatch was written Mr. Sayer,

Director of Education, has resigned. The Governor has

recommended that Mr. Sollis, Deputy Director, should

be appointed in his place. Mr. Sollis is an

educational, not an administrative, officer, and was

recently appointed to his present post with the

intention of being appointed in due course to the post

of Director. This will probably enable the reforms

recommended by the Advisory Committee to be carried

out more fully, as Mr. Sayer's attitude has always been

somewhat obstructive.
